Mom-and-Pop Store

An author’s website is similar to a mom-and-pop store. People love these types of stores because they have a homey feeling where you receive personal service. Unlike big companies that can treat you like a number. If you have questions, you can contact the author directly.

One-of-a-Kind Merchandise

Since it’s the author’s website, they can offer unique products that are unavailable elsewhere. Whether it’s signed paperbacks, t-shirts, magnets, coffee cups, or bundles. For example, my Dream Interpretation Ultimate Bundle contains two eBooks and three meditations.

Connect with the Author

There’s something special about connecting with one of your favorite authors. Like my cherished books signed by authors I admired. Whether it was verbal or written in a personal email, my favorite authors’ words to me are always in my heart

Do Authors Make Any Money?

People think authors make a lot of money, especially those published with a traditional publishing house. Did you know the typical royalty these traditional publishers pay authors is 5% to 8% on paperback, hardcover is 10 to 15%, and eBooks are 20% to 25%? However, this is after any author’s advanced royalties are earned back from book sales.

Indie authors have the opportunity to earn more. They can earn 30% to 60% per paperback and hardcover AFTER the cost of printing the book. While eBooks earn anywhere between 35% to 70%, although they earned more at the Smashwords bookstore. Authors who put their books in Kindle Select get paid less than half a cent for each page read.

According to Books.by, here is what indie authors earned in 2024 and 2025:

• 15% of authors make $0.
• 35% to 40% of authors make $1-$999.
• 20% to 25% of authors make $1,000–$9,999.
• 10% to 15% of authors make $10,000–$49,999.
• 3% to 5% of authors make $50,000–$99,999.
• 1% to 3% of authors make over $100,000.

Sadly, those numbers will probably go even lower because of all the AI books being submitted to bookstores. Books written by humans are getting buried by them. And their ads on Amazon and Facebook aren’t working like they used to.

Help An Author Out

When you buy directly from an author, they receive a much higher percentage of their books sold. Usually around 90% minus credit card fees. Hence the reason more and more authors are selling from their websites, PayHip, Fourthwall, and other direct platforms. Can you blame them?

Believe me, authors have to work very hard at getting sales because they are in charge of marketing their products! This is why I decided to create the Buy Books from the Author’s Website group promo. There are books in different genres. Please hurry as it ends on July 10, 2026.

Final Thoughts

Authors who sell direct usually use Bookfunnel, which makes downloading an eBook or bundle super easy. Most of these authors still sell at bookstores to accommodate all readers. Whew! Being an author is hard work!
