There are rewards when you take a chance for growth. Happiness and freedom are at the top of the list. When you take a chance, you set yourself up for success. Then why don’t more people go for it?
People Are Afraid to Take a Chance for Growth
Let’s face it, people are afraid of change. Folks stay in dead-end jobs, loveless marriages, or rotten friendships because they fear the unknown. They might be unhappy, but at least they know what tomorrow brings.
Here are two reasons they won’t take a chance.
- Failure
- Success
The Two Reasons
I’m going to dig a little deeper into the two reasons.
Failure
Who likes failure? Maybe a negative person who wants to make a point?
Failure can be humiliating. People might make fun of you or say I told you so. Getting married, moving to a new area, a new job, or starting a business could bring you unhappiness or bankruptcy.
Do not be embarrassed by your failures; learn from them and start again.

Yes, you could fail, but you could also succeed.
Success
People afraid of success? It sounds weird, yet they are.
Back in the mid-90s, I had a hypnosis client who was having issues with being a doctor once he graduated from medical school. He discovered during our session that he was afraid of success, which shocked him. However, knowing his block helped his private practice become successful.
Why do people fear success? Again, it’s fear of change. This change can cause more responsibility, being noticed, jealousy from others, people attempting to take advantage of you, and losing what you have gained.
My therapist says I’m afraid of success. I guess I could understand that, because after all, fulfilling my potential would REALLY cut into my sitting-around time.

How to Take a Chance for Growth
My angel sometimes gives the message to start small and go big for my clients. This means take the baby steps, then after a while, the big steps and great things will happen. Sadly, many people don’t want to do the work. Or they expect it to happen instantly. Aw, no, the journey is where we learn what works or doesn’t work, which causes us to grow…
The following are examples of small steps.
- Make the phone call
- Have a difficult conversation
- Say no
- Try something new
- Practice the something new
- Open a social media account, blog, or Substack
- Post consistently
Again, it’s the small steps every day that help us reach the goal.
Final Thoughts
I can attest to joy and peaceful living when we take a chance for growth. It was scary when I moved within the United States from New Jersey to North Carolina back in 2010. Because I moved, I met and married the love of my life.
My business has been constant small steps. I’ve failed more times than I have succeeded. My biggest successes are when I helped people make positive changes. What these lessons have taught me is to take a chance and let go of the outcome.
My latest chance is that I restarted my YouTube channel.
Plus, my Workbook for Your Dream Meanings is now available at the Lulu Bookstore and Pamela Cummins’ Bookstore.
